It is very difficult to move around in the MWRVS league since movement only happens every 3 weeks. New teams and teams with new members that do not get seeded properly suffer for much of the year.

Currently during the first 3 rounds of movement 2 teams move up a tier and 2 teams move down a tier every three weeks.

I propose that during the first 3 rounds of movement the top team moves up 2 tiers, the second place team moves up 1 tier, the third place team moves down 1 tier and the fourth place team moves down 2 tiers.

This would help seed teams better at the start of the year. It would also reduce the risk of playing the same team 4 times in the first 4 rounds of movement (happend to me last year).

There are a couple things you can do in the top and bottom tiers to make this movement strategy work. Here is an example:

Tier 1 - 1st stays in Tier 1, 2nd stays in Tier 1, 3rd goes to Tier 2, 4th goes to Tier 3
Tier 2 - 1st goes to Tier 1, 2nd goes to Tier 1, 3rd goes to Tier 3, 4th goes to Tier 4
Tier 3 - 1st goes to Tier 2, 2nd goes to Tier 2, 3rd goes to Tier 4, 4th goes to Tier 5
Tier 4 - 1st goes to Tier 2, 2nd goes to Tier 3, 3rd goes to Tier 5, 4th goes to Tier 6
Tier 5 - 1st goes to Tier 3, 2nd goes to Tier 4, 3rd goes to Tier 6, 4th goes to Tier 7

Board members did look at this format several years ago and it was too drastic a movement. Having to lose and becoming 4th especially when there is a three team tie for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place made that 4th place team fall two tiers. A team who could potentially be tier 1 in second place could fall down to tier 3 due to tie-breaker of three teams tied.

The board decided to run the 2 up and 2 team down format for the first three rounds to accelerate the movement. Another alternative is to run this for 1/2 the season for 4 rounds. The disadvantage to this is to play that same team 5 times as you indicated.

Another alternative is to run only 1 team up and 1 team down format, but you wouldn't get accelerated movement, BUT you wouldn't see that same team 4 times as you indicated. A lot of advantages and disadvantages for both and all formats.

We could bring this up at the Annual General Meeting to see what the members think about this.

What are other members thoughts on this two tier movement?

Thanks for the feedback. I understand it would really suck to move down 2 tiers if your team has a bad night or doesn't have key players... but the first 3 rounds of movement are for general seeding and should have large scale movement. The remainder of the season is to establish where you really belong.

IMO - A tier 1 team playing in tier 3 isn't nearly as bad as a tier 3 to 6 team crawling their way up from tier 13.

It will probably be tough to change the rule because over 80% of existing teams are where they belong and don't want to risk moving down 2 tiers. By next year my team should be in the tier we belong in so I probably won't care either by that point... Just took us 2 years to get up there. :)
